Client’s situation & inspiration
Our clients have a growing family so they wanted to build a three storey home to fit everyone including the dogs! They also wanted a family home that was truly theirs and designed exactly how they’ve always dreamt. Something that suited their lifestyle and reflected who they were. Their inspiration for the design came from their love for the beach, family trips to Bali & water sports.
Brief
Our client’s brief was a custom new build that was three storeys high and consisted of five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Their vision for the interior and exterior design of the house was a Balinese villa mixed with a tropical beach house. In fact, the long entrance into their home with the hardwood floor was inspired by a jetty at a boat ramp.
The design of the build had to embrace the water views that looked onto Burraneer Bay and everything had to be built with hardwood timber instead of steel in order to achieve the Balinese villa feel.
Challenges
-
Tight access
-
Using hard wood instead of steel
Solution
We overcame the challenges by working closely with the engineer Steve Wheelan and timber mills in order to come up with a solution to work with hard wood in every way possible from the exterior fence, to the framework, to the front door and flooring. We achieved our client’s vision by building a custom three story house with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The house has panoramic water views which you can see as soon as you walk in the font door and from every bedroom window. We worked closely Steel & Stitch the interior designer to ensure every part of the house was built to reflect the design vision. For example, building a custom hardwood timber fence, laying hardwood timber floor boards, creating v groove ceilings, installing cedar windows and the list goes on!
Key features
- Hardwood timber
- Cedar eaves throughout
- Colour bond monument strand and seam roof
- Pitched roof to create racked ceilings
- V groove ceilings
- Cedar windows
